Galgo Release Day - 30th April 2010Yet
another six months had flown by and it was time for another
6 gorgeous galgos to be released to join their new families
and start their new and exciting lives. When Martin and I
arrived at Precious Pets at just about midday some visitors
and some adopters had already arrived. Almost
immediately I was greeted by Bali who had come along with
Jan to collect Boss and I was given a donation from Bali’s
son which was much appreciated particularly as it was the
money he had been given for his birthday. Paula and Steve
had as usual put on a wonderful array of refreshments which
kept people occupied while I disappeared into Steve’s
office where it was so nice to receive such well presented
paperwork from Steve for each dog. This makes my job of
sorting out paperwork with each excited family far easier. Paperwork
complete, it was time to release the dogs and this time we
changed the way in which this was done. Instead of releasing
them one at a time, the kennel staff disappeared into the
quarantine area, appearing two or three minutes later each
leading a galgo so that all six came out through the big
gate one behind the other. With Matias up ahead, followed by
Martina, Danko, Boss, Tara and Andrea, they spread across
the drive and began their walk down to join their waiting
families. This was a scene that caused a few emotional tears
to be wiped away. Next
came a lot of camera clicking, kennel collars were swapped
for the collars that families wanted their dogs to travel
home in. Matias was certainly ready to be going to
Yorkshire, Martina and Tara joined up to travel home to
Sussex, Boss was happy that he was going to Wiltshire to
start his new life, while Danko looked delighted to see his
family from Cambridgeshire and last but not least Andrea
realised that something special was happening as she left on
her journey to Kent. I
would like to add that whenever I visit Precious Pets,
despite some of the galgos being rather nervous, they are
clearly happy with the treatment they get and for me that
says it all, so sincere thanks must once again go to Paula,
Steve and all their staff who work so hard to not only look
after the galgos so well during their stay at Precious Pets
but put in so much effort to make the release day a day to
be remembered for being so well organised and a pleasure for
everyone. Pat May 2010
