Greyhounds in Need Social Dog Walk

Date: Sunday, 18 July 2010
Start time: 11.00 am
Parking: CADMAN’S POOL Car Park, nr Fritham

Description

This walk, approximately 4½ miles long, should take around 2 hours at a leisurely pace.  It covers a diverse area of woodland and some open heath with plenty of water stops for the dogs to enjoy. There are footbridges over the streams en route, but it could be muddy in a couple of places – if we have had heavy rainfall. Please wear appropriate footwear.

Please maintain control of your dog at all times, and respect other users of the forest, especially ponies and horse riders.

Directions

Take the A31 from Ringwood towards Southampton . After about 8 miles, where the road has trees between the carriageways, turn Left at the Stoney Cross turning, signposted Fritham + Boldrewood.  Next Left, signpost Linwood + Boldrewood, along a dead straight road that was the old runway. When there is a bend to the left, turn Right down a track to the car park which is set well back.

(N.B. To return to Ringwood you must turn Right on way out; follow signs for Linwood, past the High Corner and Red Shoot inns to Moyles Court and back onto the Fordingbridge road.)

Directions from M 27 and Southampton

As you reach the end of the M27, stay on the Left and filter off as if going to Lynwood and New Forest , But go all the way round the roundabout to the right, under the motorway, taking the B3079 to Brook. Do not veer right in the village, but stay straight on along B3078. At Long Cross, turn left towards Fritham. Again, don’t go into village but keep to the left towards Stoney Cross. Then turn Right at signpost for Linwood + Boldrewood, along a dead straight road that was the old runway. When there is a bend to the left, turn Right down a track to the car park which is set well back.

(N.B. To return to M27 and Southampton, return along the old runway, turn right at the signpost towards Stoney Cross, and then left onto the A31 dual carriageway which runs into the M27.)

There should be plenty of space but it may well be busy with other dog walkers and family groups, and there may be ducks and geese on the pond, so please take care entering and leaving the car park.

A donation of £2.00 per person for Greyhounds in Need will be collected before the start of the walk.
